"A group of researchers here has received $250,000 in funding from the United States National Science Foundation to study flies - a coup because such funds usually go only to American institutions. Sexual athletes with wings, these black scavenger flies will be part of the study led by Prof Rudolf Meier. The group, headed by National University of Singapore Associate Professor Rudolf Meier, has been selected to take part in the prestigious ‘Tree of Life’ project, a massive international undertaking that aims to document the biodiversity of all creatures great and small.
